Fast, Faster, Mac Pro!

As Apple claims, the quad-core Mac Pro runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad, so the 8-cored version should be up to 4x faster! But is it worth to buy such a giant? No it’s not, because 8900$ for a personal Mac Pro…that’s definitely too expensive!

Just that you know, for about 8900$ you get these 8 cores, a high-end graphic-card, 1.5TB diskspace and 4GB memory. Everything else would be already available yet.

Using `if...else` more effectively

I am quite sure that most of you are confident users of the programm flow structurer if...else. In this first issue, I am trying to explain you how can use if…else more effectively respective that you can minimize your code to its minimum. The best is if I show you a simple example to show you what I mean.

function isEmpty($string)
{
    if ($string == null || trim($string) == "")
    {
        return true;
    }

    return false;
}

I don’t know but maybe some of you already know how to write this code snipplet in a shorter way. If not just look how I do it.

How it works

Basically you can just type in this search pattern:

"index of/" "madonna" "mp3".

This way works pretty well and it’s also the way I used to search for MP3 files.

But if you use this pattern, in most cases the search result convince more:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(wma|mp3) "madonna"

What I Am Carrying With Me

A long time ago I received a "stick" from Martin. This time it has to do with something like "What stuff do I have in my pockets". Today morning I took time and made a photo with my mobile, which means that all what you can see on the picture is without the mobile. Just imagine that it should be also a part of the picture!

Welcome back guys

First of all I want to (re-)welcome all of you who waited long time for my sweet revenge. I mean, it’s not that self-evident! I’m just telling this because I lately had a look at my Webalizer stats and the number of visitors did only decrease by about two times! Actually I planned to stop blogging for ever but I have already started prototyping and so on.

Main changes

The biggest change is simply the look and feel of TOMSW_ORG. But my style of designing didn’t change so far. I kept the dark style mixed with a primary color — as you can see I switched back to blue instead of pink (like in “Bijoux”). Another bigger change to me is that I am using a pattern for this version — at this point, thanks to squidfingers. I am not sure but at the moment patterns become more and more popular.

Comments

An important point which I changed in comparison with the last version is the comment section. People told me that there was a too big difference between the colors I used. This time I kept in mind to design a smoother blending. I think it’s quite relevant to rate post and comments as one whole thing; as you might already heard or read, a post without its comments is only the half clue.

Apropos of comments: I didn’t add gravatars so far. I saw that the devlopers Gravatar are in a kinda change. But I will add them as soon as possible, I swear

Typography

Sorry but I have to admit it! I really love Arial. So simple and so useful! Basically you should find in every place Arial on this site. Exceptions are for example

citations. The biggest differnece is also the size of the font. I can tell that it is about 30% bigger than in the latest version — for me personally, better readable and it looks quite more attractive (I mean 900px width, that’s not half bad!)

So. I hope my redesign is not that bad I thought and if you don’t agree with me in any point just comment it out. I DO really appreciate comments and I will probably reply as well! Cheers.
